What it costs — before you call
Our minimum is $600. Most mold companies set theirs at $1,000 to $1,500, which quietly tells you the small jobs are not worth their time. Most of what we do falls between $1,000 and $5,000.
You get a written price before work starts, and the on-site evaluation that produces it is free. We publish the full breakdown rather than holding it back until somebody is standing in your hallway.
Finding the mold is easy. Finding where the water came from is not.
Mold certification teaches a procedure for after mold is found: contain, cut out, spray, vacuum, run an air scrubber. That is the training most mold technicians have, and it is genuinely all of it.
It does not teach how a house is built — how plumbing is run, how framing carries water, what a hot attic does to the rooms below it.
Water does not surface where it enters. It can come in at one point and appear thirty feet away, on another wall, in another room. Without knowing how the house was put together, you find the stain instead of the source — the mold gets removed, you pay for it, and it comes back.
Before starting Mold Shield, our founder spent years as a superintendent for a residential homebuilder and as a project manager at a national restoration franchise. That is why we trace the water first.
What we actually find causing it
Sometimes it is one obvious thing. More often it is several moderate problems that added up until the house could not keep ahead of the humidity.
An air conditioner that is not right
Low or overcharged on refrigerant, badly balanced, or short on airflow. It cools the house without pulling the humidity out. The rooms feel cold and still feel damp.
An attic running too hot
A working attic stays within 10–15°F of outside. One with no real ventilation sits at 140°F and pushes moisture down into the house.
The wrong air filter
A high-MERV filter in this climate can add five to ten points of humidity on its own. We recommend MERV 4 or 5 — airflow matters more than filtration here.
Slow leaks that got ignored
Not the burst pipe — that gets dealt with. The shower pan that failed months ago, the roof flashing nobody chased.
How the work goes
Free evaluation first, and we tell you honestly if there is nothing to do. If there is, we trace the water before anything else, put a scope and a price in writing for you to approve, contain the area so nothing we disturb travels, then remove or treat and walk the finished job with you.
We can fix the cause and put the house back
Most mold companies remove the mold and hand you a list of other people to call. We work with master HVAC technicians, an attic ventilation specialist, general contractors and roofers, so the whole problem gets handled through one point of contact.
And you are not paying a markup for it. The usual practice is for a restoration company to take a subcontractor's bid, add ten to forty percent as overhead and profit, submit that as its own price, then sub the work out anyway. We do not do that — you pay our partners' prices, and several of them discount further for our customers.

Common questions
How much does mold removal cost?
Our minimum is $600. Small projects generally run $1,000 to $2,500, medium projects $2,500 to $5,000, and larger jobs start at $5,000. Most mold remediation in Louisiana falls between $1,000 and $5,000. The evaluation that produces your number is free.
Do you charge for the evaluation?
No. Charging to show up means people wait until it is worse. We would rather look early, and a fair number of our evaluations end with us telling someone they do not need us.
Do you do mold testing?
No, and in Louisiana one company legally cannot do both. State law makes it a violation to perform mold assessment and mold remediation on the same property. If you need testing we will get you to an independent tester, which also means the result comes from someone with no stake in how much work gets recommended.
What is mold fogging (dry fog remediation)?
A treatment that reaches into spaces that cannot easily be opened up, which often means less demolition and a lower total repair cost. It is also the tool for whole-house treatments — mold spores floating in the air, or a house that has been cross-contaminated because containment was lost while somebody opened up a wall. It is not right for every situation: where material has to physically come out, traditional remediation is the answer. We do both and will tell you which one your situation calls for and why.
Are you licensed?
Yes — Louisiana mold remediation license MR.07924, verifiable with the State Licensing Board for Contractors. Worth knowing: Louisiana only requires that license once the mold portion of a job reaches $7,500, so below that threshold many companies hold no mold credential at all.
