Most people have never had a mold company in their house and have no idea what they are agreeing to. So here is the whole thing, start to finish, before you call.

Most mold remediation in Louisiana lands between $1,000 and $5,000, depending on the area affected, the materials involved, how much has to come out, and whether the HVAC system is contaminated.
Our minimum is $600. Most mold companies set theirs at $1,000 to $1,500. A small problem should not be priced like a big one — and a lot of what we see on the Northshore is caught early enough to be a small problem.

Finding the mold is easy. Finding where the water came from is not.
Mold certification teaches a procedure for after mold is found: contain, cut out, spray, vacuum, run an air scrubber. That is the training most mold technicians have, and it is genuinely all of it.
It does not teach how a house is built — how plumbing is run, how framing carries water, what a hot attic does to the rooms below.
Water does not surface where it enters. It can come in at one point and appear thirty feet away, on a different wall, in a different room. Find the stain instead of the source and the mold returns, because nothing that caused it changed.
Before starting Mold Shield, our founder spent years as a superintendent for a residential homebuilder and as a project manager at a national restoration franchise. That construction background is why the search for the water takes up most of the visit.
The four things we keep finding
Sometimes one of them is enough on its own. More often several stack up until the house cannot keep ahead of the humidity.
An air conditioner not pulling moisture out
Low or overcharged on refrigerant, poorly balanced, restricted airflow, or oversized so it cools fast and shuts off before it dehumidifies. The house feels cold and still feels damp.
An attic that cannot breathe
A working attic stays within 10 to 15°F of the outdoor temperature. One with poor ventilation sits at 140 to 150°F and pushes that moisture down into the living space.
The wrong filter
A high-MERV filter restricts airflow across the coil, and airflow is what pulls water out of the air. In this climate it can add five to ten percentage points of humidity by itself. MERV 4 or 5 is what we recommend.
A leak that got left
Not a burst pipe — those get handled. The shower pan that failed months back, the supply line weeping behind a vanity, roof flashing that only leaks in a hard wind.
If it turns into a job
Containment
The area is sealed and held under negative air pressure, so removing mold does not distribute it through the rest of the house. This is the step that separates remediation from cleaning.
Removal
Porous material with established growth comes out. Hard surfaces are cleaned.
Fogging for mold or traditional treatment
Fogging for mold — dry fog, in the trade — reaches spaces that cannot be opened up, which often means less demolition and a lower total repair bill. Traditional remediation is right when material has to physically come out. We do both and tell you which applies.
Correcting the cause
The moisture source gets addressed, or the rest was rented rather than fixed.
Collecting the air scrubbers
They keep running after the work is done, and we come back a few days later for them.
Specialist — and still the whole job
Mold is all we do. No water, fire, storm or reconstruction divisions competing for attention.
But mold is rarely only a mold problem, so rather than handing you a list of numbers we bring in master HVAC technicians, an attic ventilation specialist, general contractors and roofers, and run it through one point of contact.
And no markup on their work. The usual practice is to take a subcontractor's bid, add ten to forty percent as overhead and profit, submit that as your own price, then sub the work out anyway. We do not — you pay our partners' prices, and several discount further for our customers.

Louisiana treats testing and remediation as separate licensed activities, and it is a violation for one company to do both on the same property. So we do the removal and refer testing to an independent assessor — which means the result comes from someone with no stake in how much work gets recommended.

Yes, and it is cheaper to ask early. Our minimum is $600, and a fair number of these turn out to be a ventilation fix you can do yourself — in which case we tell you that and leave. Waiting is what turns a small job into a large one.
How long does the work take?
A small contained job is often a single day. Larger jobs run several days depending on how much material has to be removed and how long affected areas take to dry. You get a timeframe with the quote rather than after we start.
Should I clean it myself first?
If it is a small patch on a hard sealed surface, detergent and water and thorough drying is reasonable — then fix whatever made that spot wet. Do not use bleach: it removes the color while the growth continues underneath, and because bleach is mostly water it feeds that growth in porous material.
